CBD

CBD is extracted from marijuana or hemp plants and is one of the most essential cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. What is particularly important about CBD is that, unlike THC, it has no known psychoactive effects.

In other words, CBD won’t get you high. It is thought that both THC and CBD are cannabinoids that act on brain receptors. Also, both are endogenous therefore, naturally produced by the body, which makes them part of the endocannabinoid system. Both are thought to help maintain various physiological processes and interact with the naturally occurring receptors in the immune and nervous systems.

Summer – sun – sunshine: The temperatures are rising; the days are getting longer and the clothes are getting shorter. We adjust to the warm season. In summer we are more often exposed to the direct sun and one or the other sunburn is inevitable – with consequential damage to the skin. As if this weren’t enough, perspiration encourages blemishes and oily skin. The chlorinated water in the swimming pool also irritates the skin and also dries it out. Numerous environmental influences that do not make life easy for the largest organ in our body. In this article we explain the effects of the sun on our skin and what you should look out for when buying care products in summer. What is sunburn anyway?

With sunburn, our skin reacts to damage caused by UVA and UBA rays. However, it can take up to 24 hours for this reaction to become noticeable. We then recognize the effects of a sunburn, for example, in redness, pain and peeling of the skin. The symptoms tend to vary depending on the severity of the sunburn, but there are many remedies. Brand new among them is the active ingredient CBD.

Effects of the sun on the skin

The sunshine is essential for the formation of vitamin D and it lifts the mood is already known. The sun is simply good for you and, especially in summer, many of us enjoy the warm temperatures to the fullest. However, too much sun rays can have negative effects that sooner or later become noticeable on the skin.

What’s behind it?

Sunlight is made up of ultraviolet radiation, the so-called UV radiation. This consists of long-wave UVA radiation, short-wave UVB radiation and UVC radiation. The latter is completely kept away by the ozone layer. The UVB rays are only partially blocked and the UVA rays reach us entirely.

The intensity of the radiation depends, among other things, on the following factors:

  • Time of year and day
  • Latitude

Since you cannot see or feel the UV rays, they are often underestimated. What many do not know is that the rays also exist in the shade or when it is cloudy. In addition, sun protection should not only be considered in summer, but in every season of the year.

What happens to the skin when it is exposed to the sun?

UVA rays penetrate the skin and are responsible for ensuring that melanin, a pigment that is responsible for colouring the skin, emerges from deeper layers of the skin. This also causes the skin to tan for a limited period of time.

Possible consequences of excessive UVA radiation:

  • Dry skin
  • Damage to the elastic fibers

In the long term, excessive exposure to UVA radiation promotes premature skin aging and wrinkling. The cells can also be damaged by the UVA light.

The UVB rays stimulate the melanocytes, which ensure that more melanin is produced. This will cause the skin to turn brown and begin to thicken. The skin thus builds its own protective shield.

Sunburn – Causes and Symptoms

If you are exposed to the sun for too long or too intense, the UVA and UVB rays can cause sunburn.

Sunburn is an inflammatory burn reaction of the skin with the following symptoms:

  • Reddened skin
  • itch
  • Pain

In worse cases, blistering (2nd degree burn) and destroyed skin cells (3rd degree burn) can occur.

Other possible symptoms:

  • Conjunctivitis in the case of unprotected eyes
  • Increased body temperature

How does a sunburn develop?

How does a sunburn develop?

The first reddening becomes visible about 3-5 hours after spending too much time in the sun. The peak is reached after about 12-24 hours and after about 48-72 hours the sunburn regresses, with skin peeling as a result.

Possible consequences of sunburn:

  • Pigmentation disorders
  • Flat scars at blistering sites
  • Formation of birthmarks
  • Increased risk of skin cancer.

How may CBD help?

Specific studies are not yet available for this new active ingredient, but various areas of application are known that can also have an effect on sunburn. CBD is believed to be anti-inflammatory and anti-stress, according to a study by the Journal of Experimental Medicine. The reddening of the skin that occurs with sunburn is nothing more than inflammation and can therefore be treated with CBD, whereas conventional after sun lotions are usually only supposed to have a cooling effect.

The antibacterial and antioxidant effects of CBD are exactly what your sun-stressed skin needs. Most importantly, it can lessen the effects of UVA rays on your skin, which can be extremely harmful. In addition, the component chlorophyll counteracts hyperpigmentation, which can ensure an even complexion over time.
